Prenatal Diagnosis of Classical Late-infantile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis

If your child has classical late-infantile NCL and you are considering pregnancy, the New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities can provide prenatal diagnosis on a research basis. It is important for your affected child to be tested before contemplating prenatal diagnosis to confirm that he or she has a biochemical defect in the CLN2 gene.

The test used is biochemical and can be done in blood or banked cells from the affected individual and on chorionic villus or amniotic cells during pregnancy. Arrangements  must be made in advance.

For further information, contact Karen Savona Cutti, M.S. or Jacqueline Krough, M.S. at IBR (718) 494-5369 or (718) 494-5379.
